I'm in the process of building an interior wall cap from red oak. I don't plan on staining nor applying varnish to the underside, unexposed side of the wall cap. However, I am wondering if I need to seal the wood on this side even though it will not be exposed. Suggestions anyone?:help:

I seal all sides. Unsealed sides/edges will absorb moisture at a different rate than sealed and this could cause cupping.

I agree with 47 47. Wood that's sealed on all surfaces is more stable.

Thank you for the tip. It makes sense that all sides, exposed or not, should be sealed.
