About 2 years ago we put in some tile that looks like hardwood and a darker grout in our entry way and laundry room. We currently have carpet in the rest of the main living area (on a concrete slab). The carpet is about 13-14 years old and needing to be replaced. With the high costs of a good quality carpet we were looking into putting in laminate wood flooring. I'm pretty handy and installed the tile and many other flooring before. One thing I have never done and don't ever plan to do myself is carpet.

What I was wanting to know would having tile in the entry way and laundry room and putting down a laminate look weird? Would we be better to try to match the tile or go for a completely different color? the current tile color is a darker brown color. Would something with blends or dark and light be a good choice? Just looking for some input and ideas. Thanks everyone!

Posting a picture so we can see what your seeing may help with suggestions as to what may look good.
Laminate would be one of my last choices for flooring, even more so over a slab.
Want it to look like real wood then concider engineered flooring and install as a floating floor.

I wouldn't rule out carpet, if that's what you really want, just because it's not a DIY job.

Hiring a contractor to install carpeting is relatively inexpensive. A couple of hours work for a skilled carpet crew.

A straightforward rectangular space will cost less than one with a lot of walls and other obstacles to cut and tack around, or seams to seal.

You might be able to save a few bucks by doing removal of the old carpet, cleaning and prepping the sub floor, etc. yourself.

And shop around. a lot of carpet stores, and the Big Boxes, run promotions often that include free installation.
