We just got contracted to build 10 frames for 40 inch TVs that are in a mall here in San Fran.
The customer did not specify which wood type to use. I am wondering what wood would work best for fluctuations in heat.

We are building something similar to the modern frame here:

but without the thin lines. We dont want to use mdf with veneer because i am afraid of what will happen to the adhesive over time.

So far we are looking at oak, cherry, or maple.

Does anyone have any experience with home theater furniture that is exposed to heat? Thanks in advance.

I think your best bet is to give a local Hardwoods dealer a call. These folks are all to familiar with wood moisture content and I'm sure will steer you in the right direction.

Have you considered using maybe a Birch or Oak plywood and iron on the veneer tape to the edges??

You should post more detail about your plans! Flat screen TV's do require good ventilation.
Will they be boxed in? Or will the rear be open for cooling?
On my TV there is little heat given off from the screen perimeter. The heat vents out the back, instead!
I would avoid any glued veneer, that may separate when its warm.
Probably, pine with a good polyurethane finish would be the most economical.

Just out of curiousity, how did you estimate the project if you didn't know what material you were going to use? or did you just contract for the labor?

Cherry is a lot more expensive than oak or maple around here. :yes:
