Well that was a mouthful...so I have this 45 degree corner fireplace, which shoots up from living room to roof (no attic). Using an inspector camera, I looked inside the wall, and the flute is insulated all around and heat isn't a significant issue there, not to mention we almost never use it.

Tasks at hand:
1. Wire up recessed electrical outlet to TV (prefer right side to avoid A/V but . left side is an option for safety or convenience.
2. Fish A/V wires from TV to Media console on the left side.

Challenges:
Installing boxes/making holes that go through a layer of drywall, followed by a layer of plywood (unsure of thickness).

Workaround:
For a sacrifice on aesthetics, we could make the boxes/holes ~6" away (above, right, below) from TV mount, allowing for some wire to be seen, but avoiding the plywood, or whatever it is behind there.

What are your suggestions?

Home is in Oakland, California

Thanks in advance!!!

I would use one of the all in one recessed tv boxes from Arlington.
I was also thinking to use those...I guess my biggest mystery is whether to just drill/saw through that plywood, or if there is some safety/structural reason for me to avoid it and actually work around it.

What would you say?

Also, do you recommend to get al CL2 media cables, or just put them all in a large CL2 heat shrink sleeve?

I have done a few of these for customers. You just never know what you will find in the wall. Sometimes I have seen a significant amount of structural wood or brick on each side of the fireplace. Other times I have seen a lot of hollow space. In almost all cases I have had to cut a lot of drywall off to drill holes and fish wires. Sometimes I can do the wiring from behind and confine the patchwork to a closet or unseen room. Figure on doing a major patch and paint job around that fireplace. An alternative is Wiremold 500 on the surface.

Try doing a few test bores to see what is in there. Make a small hole with an awl or drill and push a fish tape in there and feel around. A fiberglass rod is good for this also.

I have a similar set up. I used the cables designed for in wall use.

Following up

Hey guys,

So I have made some progress... (as seen in attachment)

I started running electrical, and I reached the stud that holds the wall at the angled intersection (where the wire must descend down) but I am not sure of how to proceed...

Do I have to cut off the new work box, make a hole in stud, push wire up/down, then just put in new work box?

How would you go about doing this?

Thanks!

Why not bring the power from the receptacle on the other side of the fireplace? Looks like you could fish without needing to cross a stud.

I can't because the fireplace is at a 45 degree angle, regardless of if I go left or right...

I hope the image I just drew above looks right... so I guess I'm asking how it would be easiest to fish the wire?
