I am adding some new under cabinet lighting and wiring it into an existing single pole light switch and wall outlet. Ahead of this is a GFCI outlet. Whenever I add the wiring, it trips the GFCI outlet. Can someone tell me what I am doing incorrect please?

OK. There is an existing GFCI outlet to the left of where I am wiring into. I am adding new wiring into the next single pole switch and wall outlet. I have tried to simply add the wiring into the top of the outlet, and when I do this, it trips the GFCI. Before I added the new wiring, the light switch and outlet both worked.
