I can usually successfully change an outlet or light switch by looking at what was there. In this case, there was wiring to and from two ballasts. with LOTS of wires running to each of the contacts for the flour. tubes. It didn't look like it would apply to this change.
There is a ceiling fan about 8 feet from this fixture. One one side of the room there is a 2 switch box, one switch runs the ceiling fan light, and the other one runs the island light.
Another side of the room has one light switch that operates the island and a 2-outlet plug in that box.
So, I suppose those extra orange wires and the black one that run through the island junction box have to do with these various items on this circuit.
I was hoping there was a hint of a standard I might follow here, but maybe not.
