Geez do I feel stupid! I bought an electric hoist, but the 5-foot cable for the manual push-button controller was way too short. I bought 15 feet of 4-conductor cable to make it longer. I didn't need that much, but it was the only length available.

Before I disconnected any wires, I drew diagrams for the hookups at both ends, at the motor and inside the controller. Since the new cable had different color wires, I also drew up a conversion table. I did this right inside the instruction manual that came with the hoist so I couldn't possibly lose it. I hooked up the motor end right away, but not the controller end. I figured I would do that after the hoist was mounted on the I-beam and cut the cable to the correct length at that time.

Well, the contractor who was putting up my I-beam took more than a month to get around to it, but it's finally up there. Now I can't find the instruction manual that I drew my wiring diagram in. I've been looking for two days, and I have no idea what happened to it.

It's one of those Chinese tools that's sold under dozens of brand names. Mine happens to be an Arksen brand. If anyone has an Arksen hoist, or any other brand with this same controller, I need to know how the original control cable is connected at both ends.

Here are a couple of pics of the controller:

Rather than guessing, I would write the mfg. and and have them send you a new manual.
It should have a schematic in there.....if not request one. Unfortunately not all winches have the same wiring. Next time take a picture before you dismantle it.

My mistake was drawing a diagram instead of taking a picture. Well. that and losing the diagram. Then again, the way I do things, there's no guarantee I wouldn't accidentally delete the picture!
maybe we can figure it out. The white buttons are up an down, so the big switch is a reversing switch. It feeds power to the other switch.

So I would guess, power coming from the plug in cord go the big switch and from the little switch goes to the motor.

Both switches will be rated for the voltage and amps so if they go to the wrong switch first, does it make a difference.

Let's see how you have the cord wired at the other end.

Is your new cord, control cord with four insulated wires.
3 wire with a bear copper is not acceptable.
