Wiring a Ceiling Fixture

Hi All!

I'm trying to install a freshly painted but probably old ceiling fixture in my dining room. The fixture itself has three wires: two black wires that are separated at the top but then joined together, and a thin copper wire. The box in the ceiling seems to have a lot of wires, but the three available ones are black, white, and copper. What should go to what?

Thanks!

Post a picture of the wires on the back of the used fixture---one of the 'black' wires should be a neutral

does one have ridges or markings of some kind? How old is it?

Do you have a multi meter?
