Hey guys,

My elderly parents were asking me about moving a light switch from inside their attached garage to the foyer in their kitchen, just outside the garage door. They would like to be able to turn the overhead garage light on before entering the garage. As it is now, the light switch is on the left of the door, and you sort of have to reach over to flip the switch. This is two steps up, and could potentially be dangerous if they lost their balance.

I suggested that they get a motion activated fixture or bulb, and have been looking online myself. There are some that seem decent, with good ratings on Amazon, but either the motion sensor range is not very good, or they have auto shutoff features that only stay on for a few minutes.

Is there any recommended product that would solve this problem that is good quality, UL approved, and simple to install? Thanks

Instead of moving the switch and depending on where the switch is and what is on the other side of the wall between the garage and "the foyer in their kitchen", would it be possible to just install a "3 way" switch on the other side of the wall and replace the existing switch with a "3 way" switch and wire the two together - so that the garage light could be switched on/off from either side?

Lutron Caseta with Pico remote.

Easy to install as long as there's room in the box where the switch

is being replaced.

This is the way to go. The switch does not require a Neutral. It's reliable and doesn't use WiFi.
To mount the Pico remote to the wall, you need THIS adapter and a Decora wall plate. The Pico remote does not require a box. Simply mount it to the wall using the adapter

Thanks for all the replies. The products mentioned all look like they will do the job. I'm going to show this post to my dad and let him choose whichever one he likes the best. Thanks to all who replied. I truly appreciate it.

And to clarify, the foyer is right next to their kitchen. :wink2:
