Hi! I just bought a preformed pond and found no instructions whatsoever on winterizing it. I'm in Canada and winters can get very cold. I'm worried that if I leave the water in as it freezes up might break the preform pond so what do I do? :confused1:
There are no fish or plants in it just a waterfall.

Hi! The pond measures 89''L X 54''W X 21''D with 163 gallons of water and a 500 GPH pump. None of my neighbors have a pond so nobody knows. I want to take good care of it so I can keep it for many years to come.

Maybe call around to some local landscaping companies and ask if they install ponds. If so, they should know how to take care of it, or at least know a couple manufacturers that you could call.

Sorry it took so long to get back----

Pump out about 1/3 of the water----that will provide some expansion space--

Add a few logs to the pond---helps break up the ice as it expands.---Mike----

Depending on where in Canada - Vancouver v. Ontario - very different advice.

- 21 inches isn't very deep for overwintering fish/plants in the pond - so you'll have to plan accordingly. My parents zone 7a (Virginia) have a 24 inch deep pond - They just leave the fish/plants in the pond over winter with a pump running to keep some of the surface water from freezing.
