I hope this is in the right forum...

My casement window sill in the shower area of my bathroom has a little rot on it. Should the entire thing be replaced or can I fix with wood hardener and fill?
The sill is about 36" in length and about 3-4 inches of it is rotted. Just an area under the sash about 1/2' in depth and 3-4 inches long and 1/2" wide.

I'll post one tonight. Always had windows in every shower/bathtub where I lived...

After a little more examination last night the window seems to be worse than I initially thought.
Rotted on the right side. The window is 33" wide. The left side is perfectly fine. There is about 9 inches of rot on the right...

The old window needs to come out completely... and the framing needs to be rebuilt. Since you're going to have to replace the exterior sheathing there as well as the tile work you may as well go the nex step and change everything else about the window while you're at it.

A single narrow casement set to the left side of that opening would work.

What I've done a few times is removed the window and installed a Transome window and just reframed under it.
That way you still have natural light but the window now is high enough the waters not going to rot it out.
I use acrilic block, new constrution windows and all vinyl trim.
Is there at least an exhost fan in that room?

I started pulling apart the window and didn;t realize that these were extension jambs that can be replaced. this is and Adersen awning window and they sell kits for replacing extension jambs. I ordered a new sash stop and stop on the right side and replaced those as well as the extension jambs.

No rot left at all and looks brand new after being stripped, primed and painted...

I would recommend going with a glass block window. With 3 fins in the middle which crank out. Glass company in your area would hook you up.
