I'm building a barn. it is 12x24 feet. i was planning on building a simple roof that has a ridge beam that is a 26 feet long 2x6. rafter studs will be 2x4s spaced 24' oc. the roof will be 10/12 pitch and sheeted with half inch ply and metal roofing.

will this be fine? we get snow in this area. do i need to add collar ties? closer spacing? wider rafters? thicker ply? or will it be fine as is?

thanks.

edit: i put this together in google sketchup: http://i.imgur.com/aTqI6.png (all wall studs are 2x4)

from what you want to do i dont see that working , 2x4s are not strong enough to do that , i would go with at least 2x6s or even 2x8s you have consider wieght issues , 2x4s are good for bracing and thats about it
