If you soak the immediate area with some water it will soften up the soil. Not on a mail box post, but I have used 1/2" copper fastened to my hose as a water drill to get moisture deep into the soil. Should be easier to push back in place, no sledge hammer, except for the jack-a$$ that damaged it.

Note, talk to local police as often more than one gets hit and in today's time possible a camera shot has already identified them.

I see today rubber/or plastic stem is bolted to post midway up. It’s raining so ground is little wet. I can't twist it straight by hand.

Should I unbolt it then try straightening post first.

Heard mailman so stood with umbrella an got my mail today.

Yes I called non-emergency sheriff number an reported it. They offered to come out. Good grief its not that important. My point was the nortorious speeders on side road. I assume one lost control turning my corner. I had a car flip over in my side yard few yrs ago.

I should have put reflectors on mailbox. If I ever get a handyman I’ll put a protective post on side of mailbox nearest the road corner

A sledgehammer, or a come-along, or a chain hooked up to your pickup will brake your post before the soil yields. Take a pointy shovel, remove the soil from the side of the post that will resist your pull, and then straighten the post with your bare hands. Then repack the soil around the post.

My neighbor, being tired of the kids using his mailbox for batting practice, has the entire mailbox made with 1/4" steel mounted to a heavy steel post that's buried about 3 feet into the ground.

Kids don't mess with it any longer.

I knew a guy living on a rural road whose mailbox was constantly being destroyed by idiots playing mailbox baseball.

After replacing his mailbox for about the fourth time he had enough. He bought a a steel mailbox box, welded it to a 4-inch steel post and mounted it on a concrete base.

The next time the morons came through the "batter" ended up breaking his own arm.

His family threatened to to sue the homeowner until he informed them that even a single act of intentionally vandalizing a USPS approved mail box is punishable by up to $250,000 in fines and three years in jail for each act of vandalism.
