Whole house fan and venting

Bought a new house that has full length ridge vent, gable vent and several turbines. One of the rooms is a full cathedral ceiling which I have no idea as of yet how or if it is insulated. There are no baffles in attic for insulation but could be installed when installing soffit. I want to keep the whole house fan but want it to vent properly. I have to redo siding and soffit/fascia so should I close up the gable vent and install vented soffit or ?
