So in our basement we have a sump pump on a dedicated 20 amp circuit. Would it be a bad idea and a total code violation to have a whirlpool on that same circuit. They would be about 10 feet away from each other and both would be GFCI protected.

Other options might be to add the sump pump to a 15 amp circuit with 8 receptacles already on that circuit? Sump pump about 5 feet away from receptacle.

Other option run 60 feet of wire from panel to whirlpool in cramped areas.

I do not know which state you are located however there are some local codes may have requirment that the sump pump must be on it own circuit at all.

The Whrilpool tub motour must have it own circuit as well { this is very specfic in NEC code and manufacter instruction if applied }

Both item can not be on the same circuit at all.

The sump pump has been plugged in for 8 years and has never had to turn on. It does work. I have check that it does but we have never had water in basement. So the odds of whirlpool and sump pump on at same time is almost zero. I know the spec sheet says dedicated curcuit on whirlpool. Not sure about code for sump pump.

Helped build a museum for kids once in a lovely old restored railway building along the Ohio River. The river had not not risen anywhere close to the point where the building what get wet in over 100 years so the board opted to save money and not carry flood insurance.

Well enter Mother Nature and the flood of the century. The signature electronics and all controls on the lower floor were done in and the place destroyed to the point it would cost 2-3 times what it had cost to build it out to try and repair it.

Stretching an analogy a bit here but are you sure you want to be combining things on the sump pump circuit even if it is legal? That is a major piece of flood control equipment for your house it I personally would not play odds about what might or might not trip a circuit if on the same one with it.
