I want to replace the three rooms of carpet with wood floors. I am concerned about which way to run the wood floor. If standing at front door I am concerned what the sight line (see dotted lines & arrow) should be. The part with the arrow especially as it is what you are staring at from the entry.

This would be hardwood over cement slab if that matters.

You want your planks perpendicular to the direction walking thru the entry, so parallel to the long arrow.
Advise: Since you don't know the condition of the 6 mm plastic (visqueen) under your slab, you have to worry about possible moisture under the new expensive floor. There are ways to determine our floor moisture level, see youtube videos.
I had this happened to me, and my remedy was to waterproof the 2' deep footing around the house (a lot of digging), and using an excellent product called THOROSEAL.

I agree on the direction of the planks. Run them east/west relative to the sketch. <------>

Tell us more about the specific wood. It's obviously engineered right? You'll want to do some moisture testing of the floor. It would also be helpful if you gave your location to get an idea of the weather and moisture situation, although the tests are primary.
