I would have to do some destruction to my cupboards to see if there is mold underneath. I think it is possible that the water beneath my cupboards has dried.

My gut feel is that nothing bad will happen if I do nothing. Medical doctors say mold can cause serious problems however. The cupboards were not bran new or particularly high quality. But water was sitting on a horizontal board for quite some time. I suspect it seeped through. To me, any home purchase could have mold underneath the cupboards where there is plumbing. The new buyer would not normally be aggressive and look for mold.

I have seen different products that test for mold in the air. Are they useful? If so, which one is recommended?

Taking the toe kick board off the bottom of the cabinet will reveal the floor.

There a many ways to see if mold is present.

What good is a test kit for the air if you don't know where the source is coming from.?

If you suspect an area check it out,

If mold is not in the air, it seems like there would be no safety issue.

Do you recommend I remove the plastic toe kick and the toe kick board behind it? Removing the plastic veneer would not seem to reveal much. Will I just need some nails to replace these things if I see no mold? I am not sure how the plastic veneer was fastened to the board behind it. Maybe I will need some sort of carpenter glue to reattach it?

You have to make up your own mind. I stick by comment.
Maybe this will help.

https://www.puroclean.com/blog/does...to answer your question,it has a water source.

"" Mold stays “dormant” in the air or on surfaces even when there's no excess moisture to help it grow. ... So, to answer your question, dehumidifiers do NOT kill mold, but they do prevent it by reducing humidity. If you have a mold problem in your home, don't wait. Mold spreads as long as it has a water source.Aug 18, 2017 ""

Just my opinion.

Will a kit detect mold on the backside of drywall, cabinets, etc...?
Will it detect mold if the humidity is low.?
How far can mold spread without being detected.?
How far will the mold be airborne if any at all.?

I feel the only way to make sure is to check for yourself and remove it if necessary.

You can remove the toe kicks or drill small holes inside the cabinet and use a camera. When done use hole plugs.
