I'm removing this window unit. Can I knock out the half blocks under the lintel, or should I just splice some blocks in?

I'm trying to make it look like the hole was never there as best as I can. I don't really want to remove the lintel, however. I just need it to not look like an eyesore.

I would n't touch the block between the two openings. The lower ones and the half cut one on the right could probably be removed and replaced with whole ones.

Assuming you're going to paint it all again, I wouldn't remove anything. Lay a half course in the bottom, and lay the next 2 courses in full block. Tool the joints that should be and flush the joints that shouldn't. If you want, grind the bond joints into the lintel/header every 16" to mimic the block bond below.
