We have decided to paint our walls pale grey however the ceiling is a lantern style skylight. After the walls reach what would be a conventional ceiling it has 2 steps before reaching the skylight.

Do I stop the grey at the conventional ceiling and do the ceiling and steps in white ? Or continue right the way up ?

It can be painted either way. How does it tie into the adjoining walls?

Adjoining walls won’t be an issue it was just whether it would extend the room or make it feel shorter really. I think I’m leaning to having from ceiling up white.

The adjoining wall might determine which would look best.

It’s actually sort of an archway so no adjoining wall in a sense. It leads into the kitchen which is tiled. And has a collage wall of photos

Be careful about rolling or brushings paint samples on walls. They will leave a texture that can be seen after you paint the walls with your final color.

I am old school. Above the walls is ceilings. Ceilings are flat white.

We usually end up trying several samples so started buying those sheets of heavy paper from the paint store specifically to put on the wall to try your paint samples on.

Ahh okay , it’s just something I’ve always done. I did read that some people had issues with colours looking different on paper to the wall.

Painting samples is ok, you just don't want to gob it up where there is a 'ridge' between the sample paint and the existing paint.

Try to feather them out a little at the least. I've seen samples turn into permanent fixtures in the wall. usually not an issue, but when it is, its a major issue.
