We are trying to big a pergola in our back yard. Problem is, half of the desired area for the structure is covered in dirt but the other half is exposed aggregate. At least 2 of the 6 posts will need to be sunk in the exposed aggregate part of the structure area. What do we use to get our hole dug?

I think once you cut the concrete out, you are looking at post hole diggers and a 6' bar or renting an auger. How deep do you plan to go?

Do you have to sink those posts? Can you get away with anchoring an post base right onto the slab?
