What type of trap/drain is this?

That is a what-emma-jig-dooohicky combination not yet in the code Book.

its a drum trap. they used to use them on tubs back when they were still using lead pipe. what is the drain to the far right of the disposal?
you can get rid of most of that piping by using a tubular disposer kit and a regular p-trap. connect the dishwasher drain into the connection
on the side of the disposal that is made for that purpose.

Yeah -
it's two drum-traps -
one for each basin on the sink.
I notice they didn't put any unions on the drain -
could be some, fun if you have to remove the disposal!

They don't like to see drum-traps anymore.

It appears that there is no vent. That's probably why the drum traps are there.

To the right of the Disposal is a stand pipe type drain for the dish washer, also with a drum trap... Not sure why it's not just connected to the disposal.
I can't use a p trap because the drain goes straight down into the Floor. There is no way for me to change it to an in wall, there's no room. It's an outside wall and directly below the wall is a doubled up rim joist of some sort. I cannot go straight down from inside the wall into the basement, I would hit those, what looks like rim joists..

I can't see anything else to do other than copy this type of setup (minus the dishwasher hookup) or just use the dreaded s-trap which is what was there to begin with.
