I want a tool to determine the angle of the wall corners or door corner edges then be able to accurately cut that angle in half and transfer it to my single compound miter saw to cut perfect mouldings.

Guess with a scrap and experiment. A couple of tries and you have it. It is scrap anyway.

Problem is many corners are not simply one angle, they curve towards the final corner based upon how much mud was applied.

Old Thomas has the best approach to get a workable angle and move on.

Kind of like old Thomas.....but it is way off I might start with my bevel square and the commence to estimate half of that.

I use a Starrett 7" angle finder. They cost around $20.

Your plan will work only in an ideal world. In this world you need to test and trim each miter a few times to get a decent fit, and an angle-measuring tool does not help with that.

In all the years I did trim work, I never used anything to find angles. As for wall mounted trim, I just coped it.
