Hey Guys,

I forgot to add a metal edge when tiling so now there is no straight egde...

What would you place between the wood transition piece and the tiles here?

Caulk (dap alex plus), silicone, buy some pre-made grout?? I feel that dirt and dust will get caught if I put nothing...

I'm going to secure it using silicone instead of the nails provided as I don't have to fill the nail holes and stain them.

I'd put in a matching color caulk.

Should be able to get caulking the same color as the grout.
Look in the tile area not the painting area.

Silicone will hold that quite nicely if you wish to use it----

If it's just a piece of T molding I'd just use clear silicone. I wouldn't worry about dirty and crud really getting stuck underneath. I did pretty much the exact same thing and just use silicone to attach my strip of T molding and it holds fine. Personally I don't like caulking the edge of the T molding because it's not as clean a look imo, unless you have a big gap you're trying to hide.

When you say gap, do you mean the gap between the molding and floor? because this is't a T molding, it's more of a wedge (reducer). Eitherway the only gap I have is along the "not so straight edge" of the tile.

I wish I told my tiler to place a finished metal edge there.

Ah ic.. Hard to tell by the picture it looked like the tile and HW floors are on the same height plane. Honestly it all comes down to aesthetics and what looks best imo. I laboured over worrying about the transition and it really wasn't a big deal after I did it. It's really hard to tell how big the gap is in between the tile/transition.. Is it sitting flush or is it not flat? If the transition isn't sitting flat then you'd need to cut the back of it w/ a table saw and very carefully rip it down slightly. If the transition sits very loosely in its spot you might need a couple nails as others suggested, but you could always try just siliconing it down in place and see how it looks. If the gap by the tile is too large caulk it afterwards. I've learned that basically you do whatever you gotta do to make it fit/look nice.

Edit: Looking at the pictures again if you caulk the transition/tile gap, I'm sure it'll look fine as long as you color match the caulk to the grout you have. Whether you need/want to caulk that gap is personal preference.

Also as others said.. if you want to stain it.. make sure you do it BEFORE installing the transition piece.

It is flush now...after planing and sanding for like 2 hours...I didn't have a table saw.

I'm just going to silicone...put some dumbbells on it and leave it for 2 days. It's now stained and urethaned so I don't want to put any nails in it now, i assume.

I am going to look for flexible grout or matching caulk (whichever is cheaper)

flexible grout is expensive like $45 for a small bag. chaulking is like $5 for a tube. i seen it used in high end homes where hardwood meets up with their marble floor.
