My husband and I are rebuilding an old two story log cabin, incorporating it and some new spaces into a new 'old' home.

For a variety of reasons, including the lack of space for ducting in log walls, we want to heat this with hot water using reclaimed 2-pipe steam radiators and some oxygen barrier 5/8" Wirsbo tubing we picked up at a good price.
We need some instruction on designing a system that circulates and heats evenly and can be locally controlled at each radiator. We have already calculated boiler needs for our heat loss calculations. We have 12 radiators we will use on 3 different floors.

The 50 gallon oil (converted to gas) Bock hot water heater we will use is already installed in the basement. Do we need a pump for each radiator? Or one pump for each floor? Or some other configuration? Do we need electric thermostats to turn off the pump(s) or just one thermostat to turn off the pump while controlling room heat with a thermostatic head on each radiator?

Is there a pressure sensitive device for turning off the pump(s) if we use non electric (wax activated) thermostatic heads for controlling radiator valves? We would like the heat to be easily controlled from each room and reasonably responsive, if that is possible, without being expensive. We are DIYers. Can you help us sort this out a little better?
