what kind of thermostat do I need?

I have central air in my house (forced hot air oil furnace). I have a raised ranch house with 2 zones. One stat for top of the house and the other stat is in my finished basement. They are digital programmable thermostat's (HONEYWELL T8600C1162 THERMOSTAT, CHRONOTHERM III) but they look old and I want to replace them with something newer.

I have 2 questions.

1. The reason I want to replace them is because A. they look old, B. I don't know if they are working right. I have my heat on and the temps read higher than it is. for example, in my basement it will feel cold (feels like high 60's) but my t-stat will say something crazy like 72F. So then I have to crank it to 73+ to turn the furnace on. Once heat comes on, the t-stat will say its 75F but it doesn't feel like it. Then i have crank it to 76+ for it to come on. The temp just seems off. Will new t-stats help?

2. because I have 2 thermostats, do I have to stick with zone thermostats or can I just buy any two matching thermostats to put in?

Ayuh,.... Get a couple of Thermometers, 'n See whether the T-stats are Right, or wrong....
TH6220 stats will work.
in regards to my 2nd question, can I get anything or they have to be zoned tstats?
That would depend on the zone panel you have.
The important part of that model number is the "C".Becxause of the oil heat you have a need to swuitch a line voltage load.Stick with Honeywell or white Rogers stats the rest are cheap imports that are really worthless. When you buy the stat make sure it is for gas, oil, orelectric so you know you have the eright terminals
