I saw this on FB. And I couldn't pass it up.

This was the original comment on the FB post:
Cheap Breaker Panel Fix
This "fix" won't work because the breaker is designed to trip internally. Instead, assemble the breaker panel the correct way. Is it possible to care less about the potential of starting a fire? You should be in DIY jail, sir.

Unauthorized panel mod. Only problem I see there!

Wouldn't have been a problem if they had tied tied the copper wire down at a point beyond the panel. Jamming a breaker in the "on" position via some improvised method is perfectly fine. All modern breakers are "Trip-free" and that is a UL requirement. That means the breaker will completely ignore the fact that you're holding it on, and trip anyway and laugh at you.

Seriously. You're allowed to put locking kits on breakers, they're even listed by UL.

And yeah, there is cause to lock a breaker "on". It runs a radon system. It runs a fire alarm. In my shop it powers a fridge (where we use the main panels to switch off lights, and we do encourage people to de-energize stuff they're not using, and some people just slap 'em all off and we don't want to discourage that).

How does anyone know what the truth is with all the differing opinions? I have my own opinion, but, not an expert.
It can only serve one of two possibilities.
To keep the breaker from being turned off, or thinking the breaker will not rip with the wire.
