I doubt it has a specialized purpose. Looks like someone who doesn't have a clue about layout tried to combine a square and a protractor. Also looks sort of cheaply made, like something you would find in with a cheap set of tools.


But maybe someone will recognize it and let all know.

It's actually very well made. The steel is 3/16" thick and I've checked the degrees and their spot on. I'm wondering if there shouldn't be another pic that attaches to the bottom part that would also slide. I'm going to take a different picture with it showing a different angle.

Is it complete or is it missing something? Mine doesn't come apart. I can see how it would work now. I figured it had something to do with the construction industry. I've been union plumber for over 40 years and knew it wasn't part of our trade. Thanks so much for the pix and explanation.
