Bucky,
How is Ida supposed to know if the line(s) are hot? Just because the lights aren't on (timer? photocell?) doesn't guarantee that there is no juice to the wiring (may have been done wrong).

Ida,
Do you plan on doing something with this wiring or are you just curious?

If you wanted to be 100% positive what they are you could get a $10 non-contact tester and test them without removing any wire nuts or splices.

Dude, don't get offeneded.

You look at that splice box. Then you tell a person with (most likely) absolutely no electrical experience to start pulling wire nuts? AND undo the wires???
WHY undo any wires?
What if they don't know how to put the splice back together?
What if they don't turn the power off first?

I didn't say you were dumb. I said the idea was.

ok,

thank you all for your advice.

I never bothered to check if there's a sprinkler system in the yard.

Kinda supposed they would have told me it when i bought the house.

There definately are no sprinkler heads in the yard, I would have known by now.
