Looks like a female loop lamp finial with a machine screw hook threaded into it.

This an example of "******* engineering".

It is two things combined to make a hanger.

The first is a hanging lamp finial, for lighting, the other is a common machine thread plant hook, both parts available in different sections of any box store, hardware store, or maybe even Wal-Mart.

You guys are awesome! Thanks so much for shedding light on this subject.

I tried shopping for it online, and while I found it a few places, the shipping would make it stupid expensive for what it is. So when things calm down a bit, I'll venture into the local Home Depot and hope I can find what I need in person.

Cheers!

They’re called cup hooks...I have them all over the place outside
for feeders and wind chimes and hanging stained glass windows
outside. Some are small and some are big.

We also use the cup hooks to hang flower baskets from our Pergola.

Pardon my interruption, Cup hook is only half of that assembly.

There are two kinds of cup hooks, the ones with a wood screw end, and the ones with machine screw end.

The other half is a hanging lamp finial.

You have to pardon me cause I’m just a girl, :wink2: but the pic makes no sense.
The cup hook was screwed into a round hoop...This is not hangable, as pictured.

It should be opposite , first the cup hook is screwed into the wood - then
round hoop is next (assuming that round hoop is attached to something else
like a bird feeder or a hanging kerosene lantern.

If you look at that hook, it does not screw into wood, it is a machine screw end.

And as we "Guys" pointed out, it is an "engineered" gadget.

And you know that men don't have no sense anyway.

A cup hook would have a cast in stop at the end of the wood screw threads so it can only be threaded in so far. Without that stop, it is a screw hook.

When it has a machine screw thread, it’s a machine screw hook, often called a J-bolt.

As far as the OPs pic, I think they were using the lamp finial inside the birdhouse in place of a wing nut. The washer and the hex nut on the outside, sandwiching the thin wood between them. That would have the hook at the top. It probably hooked into an eye screw installed into a branch or wood beam.

You mean after all these years, I’ve had my heavy flower pots hanging from
machine screws? good grief! :surprise:

These have held up for decades is soft redwood...as OSO said they’re cup
hooks...I did notice tough that my head groundskeeper uses a drill to start (on hard wood) before screwing in the hook...

Oh, this is a hanging hook, I have flowerpots for flowers and wind chimes. I want to say that the wind chimes during this period of the year make me especially happy, a light breeze blows and they make soothing sounds. My bells were made of various materials taken from the ground. Materials for creating bells include bamboo, metal. Bells can be made using various sizes, shapes, designs. One of these popular designs are butterfly bells. Using butterfly wind chime can be especially soothing to the person who chooses this type of wind chime here https://windchimesguide.com/reviews/butterfly-wind-chimes/ . This calming or centering benefit can be based on two specific reasons. These reasons are the beauty of the wind chime of the butterfly and its symbolism.
