Yeah, not so fast. I went to lowes and home depot. They have tandems but the back of the breakers don't look like this. Some have a metal hook. Love to just order a breaker online but they dont show the back of the breaker. Is the particular breaker have a name or designation? I need tandem 20s. Cant order them unless i can differentiate them from the other types. They have plenty square d of this type. I managed to find the 40a at both stores
That should be easy to find, it's a popular tandem. They only fit in certain slots in the panel. Shop around since some want $50 for it and others only $18.

You should be able to find them. They may be in a locked cage due to their cost. Like Surferdude2 says, you can find them cheaper, I'm sure. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Square-...Pole-Tandem-Circuit-Breaker-QO2020C/100075651
This is the reason people come to forums like this—to get extra eyes on a given problem. I saw these here online when i first started but couldnt figure out why these were $56 bucks.

The non-hook version of this breaker, what I am looking for, is The more expensive $56.. The $40amp version, which i bought, was $19. For fks sake why? So aggravating... thanks

You can use the hook version only in panels and locations on the panel that have a slot in the mounting bar. Panels are designed for only a specific number of circuits, restricting you from using additional twin breakers. The non-hook breakers are not ul listed for use where the hook version will not fit.

The hook is on those tandem breakers so you won't be able to use them in excess quantities in a panel. By design Squard D had made it difficult for you to over load the panel beyond their design approval.

If you choose to take steps to violate that safety restriction, you will have to judge how safe that is and take on the risk management yourself.

With careful examination, you will be able to see that those breakers will only fit in certain locations of the busbar. You may be able to move some breakers around and still get the results you want.

We upgraded our Service to a 200amp panel less than 15 years ago and the general contractor for the new addition must have gotten the cheapest cr*p from home depot at the time to save money he would pay and keep for himself as we have seen time and time.

The modern ctl style system designates the type and number of different breakers allowed on the panel so the end user doesn't over load the panel or somehow place breakers in the wrong place(?). I only have one other tandem and that is for a 15, but this 20 is out of necessity without having to re-route wires all over the panel; the inspector looked and said it would be fine.

So now, i am searching for the best price on QO2020c breaker that is almost half the cost more that the total material list for this tiny project. So annoying.

Find the model number of the panel. It should be on a label on the panel. Get a hold of Schneider Electric (they are good at getting back to you). Give them the model number of the panel and they will tell you the specific breakers you can use in that panel.

You must know that just because a breaker (even same brand) may fit securely in your panel does not mean it is rated for that panel. This is a big mistake that many homeowners make.
