I have a driveway that is laid with about 2" of crush stones, it is an area about 80 feet long and 12 feet wide.

Weeds are coming up through the stones.

What kind of product do I need? I understand there are different weed control products like Round Up, or pre-emergent or post-emergent weed killer plus home made herbicide. What is the best option for my situation?

I have a lot of gravel driveways. I use generic concentrated glyosphate, the same chemical as Roundup. I spray about once every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on growth. A 2 1/2 gallon jug makes a lot of spray at 2 ounces per gallon of water. I have a boom sprayer that sprays 8 feet wide. There are other products that inhibit growth for a year, but they cost a lot more. I have enough driveways that I usually spray 50 gallons at a time.

If you want them gone, and want them to stay gone for a while, Ortho Ground Clear vegetation killer. Used to be labeled as "Triox." But be warned: This stuff will kill everything. Treat very cautiously.

I've accidentally sprayed too much in cracks in the driveway early in the season, rain came along and washed some to the edges of the driveway, killed the grass. That grass stayed dead the rest of the season.

I don't think landscaping fabric underneath is going to do a lot. Weed seeds are flying around the air constantly. The seeds land on some dust and dirt between the rocks, maybe get a little rain or dew, and you got some weeds. Old Thomas solution is going to work.
The gravel at this house was put down over tarps. When this picture was taken, it had been down for 8 years and the lady kept the weeds down by spritzing them with vinegar. Since then the tarps did fail and we raked the gravel off, washed it and put down road fabric and it looks much the same today.

@miamicuse, I'll offer any honest suggestion, if possible, get a concrete or asphalt driveway. Even in the desert stones like you have will get lots of weeds after it rains.

Handle that Triox stuff with great care, as @More Power!noted. A friend used it near his vegetable garden. ACK.

Let us know what you decide to do, and why. All of the body of knowledge matters.

I have used Triox and other ground activity chemicals. They work well and can last a year. However, with the size of your driveway you will need a wheelbarrow full of money. Generic glyosphate concentrate has to be applied every month or two, but it gets diluted enough that a 2 1/2 gallon jug will last you for years.
