We're building a desk with recessed light on the bottom of the first shelf over the desk. We're having a hard time deciding the correct height from the top of the desk to the bottom of the puck lights. The desk will be about 28" deep and the shelf above the desk will be about 15" deep.

How high should it be from the top of the desk to the bottom of the lights??? Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks.

I think it's really a matter of preference. I say you should use a free-standing desk lamp (or some other portable light you have on hand) and try it at varying heights and depths until you hit on something comfortable.

Also, if your planning on putting a laptop or computer screen on the desk, don't position the light so that it's close to the screen (in the front-to-back direction) -- it'll wash right across the screen and probably be very annoying.

That's my 2c anyways.

Instead of a puck I would try to install a more linear type of lighting. The light level will be much more even.
