The NEC, plus a book that interprets the NEC and thereby uses pictures, diagrams and less dense language.
McGraw Hill prints some of these interpretative books.
Ray Mullin has written at least one.
With your house wiring, troubleshoot as you go along.
Before you close any breaker for the first time, put a 100w incand. bulb across it. If the bulb lights full brightness, look for the short.

No, but I have been taking a mail-order dentisty course for some time. I have been unable to finish the hands-on final exam and graduate. Any volunteers to help me with the final exam?

I took that same course. The final exam is done on yourself with a mirror.
To the OP, I bought the NEC code book, Wiring Simplified 42nd edition. These two I found very useful. I also bought an illustrated book at one of the major stores but found it to be not as usefull and with some mistakes.

You did volunteer that you used Google to find this forum so you must have goggled for "Wiring a House". Don't trust a book to give you all the answers, especially that one:

That was a book labeled "For Pros by Pros'" Even if you do find a 'Good' book where the info is technically correct and complies with the NEC your local rules may prevail.

I'm sorry if I was vague, just asking if there were any general books on wiring. Yes, I am a licensed GC, but that does not make me an expert on every phase of construction. Like most GC's, you rely on your subs alot. I came up framing and capentry work, electrical has always been tough just b/c I've never done it hands on. I've helped many friends and such wire houses, but have always had a licensed elec a call away or close by to 'stumble thru it.
By research thru books I'm sure I can fill in the gaps I lack in experience, just need to get my hands on good books.:thumbsup:

JJ, Your explanation is accepted. My frustration is with Folks who treat this forum as a source of quick and easy answers to global questions where no information is relayed as to the Posters background, location, or any supporting information.
You started out with a short cryptic question and it took three posts to get your message across. Regulars on this forum like to help with questions but we are not a question answering service.
While printed books have valuable information you also need theoretical and practical experience to become adept in this field. The info in Post #3 should get you started on the books.
