I have a full sized headboard and footboard that I would like to attach to my daughter's queen sized mattress set. I get bits and pieces of info online, but I can't figure out everything I need to make this work. I want to do this as easy and cheaply as possible.

I have:

"Queen" Mattress and Box Spring
"Full" Headboard/Footboard (side rails are missing)
Metal Bedframe aka Hollywood frame (but it is the kind that stops about a foot shy of the end of mattress)

Also, the style of this was where the side rails were to be attached by hooking into the head/footboard.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Not sure I understand.

A queen mattress set will be 6" wider than a full size. Are you trying to split a 3" difference on either side or something? Not sure brackets on the frame are going to line up expanded to the queen size?

You could mount the headboard to the wall. Not sure how to handle the footboard.

Not sure you will find anything off the shelf for this,
It may look odd being 3" to norrower on each side.
Maybe a steel plate with 2 holes in the location for the headboard and 2 holes in the location for the frame?

Yes, I am going to center the headboard leaving 3" on each side. It's not ideal, but it's what I plan to do. Once I add pillows, it won't matter that much. I hate to mount it to the wall because that seems permanent and I like to move furniture around. It's something that was handed down to her and buying a new mattress isn't in the budget.

attach a 2x to the bed frame brackets at the head and then bolt the head board to the 2x. don't know what you'll do with the foot board however. standard bed frames seldom have brackets for foot boards, at least it's been my experience.

Good luck!

If you like that headboard you'll have to make your own bracket.
Metal rectangles with 4 holes (2 in frame location and 2 in headboard location)
or maybe a strip of plywood, 3/4" thick with to fit frame and an inch on each side.
drill 2 holes on each side and bolt it to the frame, then center the headboard and mark bolt locations and drill them.
I would also add rubber/felt feet to the legs on the headboard where it touches the floor. Use the biggest that will fit. This is so it don't dint/scratch the floor.
If carpet you can get plastic cups with little spikes on it.
