Hi Everyone!
Just removed this “nozzle” from the filter basket going into my pool pump. I was surprised to see it, especially since I have no idea where it came from. I don’t have anything remotely like this connected to the pool system. But somehow it got into the 2” pipe that feeds the low pressure pool pump intake. It was bouncing around in the filter basket which was making the noise that made me look.
I guess it’s possible it’s been sitting stuck in the pipe for long time and just recently got free and ended up in the filter basket. I know it didn’t get sucked into the skimmer because the skimmer has a filter basket too...it never would have been able to get through that. The only other possible way it could have been sucked into main pipe is through the main drains but looking at the openings there, it doesn’t look big enough to squeeze through. So it must have been in the pipe to start with?
There aren’t any irrigation sprinkler nozzles remotely like this in my yard. The pool has a screened enclosure too. No kids throwing stuff in pool either. It’s very strange this has just now showed up.
If anyone can identify what water device this came off of then maybe the mystery will be solved.
Thanks !
Gary

Well I can see where you might think it’s a roller but it doesn’t have any moving parts. I looked online for anything resembling this as a roller associated with pool vacs but nothing came close. My pool guy comes tomorrow so I’m going to see if he has any ideas. If I find out I’ll be sure to post it.
Btw, this is the second mystery object I’ve found around this house since I moved in 5 years ago. First object was never identified although I did post it here about 2 years ago.Things like this tend to bug me!
Thanks

Bob! I think that might be a strong possibility and makes the most sense so far. Really think you might be onto something here....I’ll do some checking out.
Thanks that’s a great idea!

When I saw the pics I though of a chair leg tip, too.

If we were giving out prizes for correct answers, Rooster would win this one.
Turns out the “nozzle” is a cap off my pool thermometer. I didn’t think of that because it generally ends up in the skimmer so out of sight out of mind. The mystery now is how in the world did it come apart and more so, how did it get through the first skimmer basket? The basket floats whenever the pool isn’t running and seals in any debris it’s collected during operation. When pool comes on, it sucks it down into skimmer drain. I haven’t tested theory but I bet the cap floats and somehow got by the skimmer basket.
Anyway mystery solved and thanks to all who responded.
Have a great day!
