What are these extra hoses for in this wide faucet

Water has to get from the valve to the spout somehow.
How 'bout a thermostatic mixing valve.

The chrome and copper lines are the hot and cold supplies to the faucet.
The flex are the supplies from the handles to the spout. The extra length allows for wide spread on the handles- "one size fits all"
