Hi,
I need to do a few repairs on a building. Over the years ive never really had much of a problem fixing things, but i always used a friends set of tools. Now i've moved across the country i have to get my own set. What are some basic things i should get? is there like any multi set worth getting from amazon (Im based in uk, but amazon uk has most things the .com has)

There are some decent all-in-one type sets at the big box stores that will probably cover a bunch of your needs.

hammer , speed square, 2' framing square, screw drivers, flat and phillips, saw, level 2'and 4', channell locks, pliers, small pipe wrench, tubing cutters, torch, power saw, miter saw, cordless drill, power drill, saw horses, router, table top saw, electrical tools, drywall tools, concrete tools, hvac tools,...this may get you started..

Simple, start off with buying all the tools you used to borrow the most. Also have repair items on hand. Ie, supply lines for toilets and sinks, extra toilet valve kit, couple of shut off valves and plumbing fittings and extra hose and coupler for fridge ice maker etc, etc... When your workshop looks like home depot, you are about done.

At least you should have the following basic tools:

1. Flat and Philipp Screwdriver
2. Wrenches
3. Hacksaw
4. Hammer
5. Sandpaper
6. Grinder
7. Drill
8. Torque Wrences
9. Impact Sockets

These basic tools can be found the in you nearest hardware stores or online shop like amazon or ebay.

This should be easy. Just think back, make a list of every tool you have borrowed over the years and go shopping. :wink2:

In my view there's no need to buy a bunch of tools based on projects that may or may not happen in the future. As projects come up buy what you need to tackle them as you need too.

That said a tape measure, a couple screwdrivers, a roll of duck tape and a small hammer should always be in the junk drawer. :smile:

You really need only two things:

You said you've "moved across the country" and based in the UK. Obviously, any screwdrivers you get should match whatever heads they use over there. Also, if you decide to get socket wrenches, you many well need both metric and imperial sizes.

Claw hammer
Small assortment of various size and types nails
punch/nail set
4-6 screwdrivers (common types/sizes)
Ice pick
2-3 adjustable wrenches
Pliers
Large adjustable pliers (Channel locks)
Diagonals (wire cutter)
Small level
Utility/razor knife
Tape (electrical, masking, packing, duck)
Tube of lithium grease
3M oil (small can)
Super glue
Wood glue
