I have a cabin on a lake and I am having trouble getting the pump to get water .

I bought a new pump thinking that was the problem but still no water.

I didn't use the cabin last summer so I didn't turn the water on for a whole year. I was wondering if by not turning the water on for a whole year would this cause the well to run dry?

Did you follow the new pump's directions? Did it need to be primed?
If all was done correctly, remove and inspect the check valve before giving up hope!
It may be as simple as replacing the valve and trying again.
