The pump cuts off intermittenly....You can cut the water on and it runs fine for 10 mins. or so and then it cuts off for about 3 to 5 mins. and comes back on...sometimes it cuts off has soon as you cut it on and then 3 to 5 mins. later it comes back on etc. ........any and all help greatly appreciated

Sounds like the points in the pressure control switch may not be making contact properly.

I had the same problem. Mine turned out to be fire ants crawling onto the contacts of the switch and getting zapped dead. The dead would stack up and the contacts could not touch. Remove switch cover(turn off power first) File and clean off contacts. Get a medicated cattle ear tag(bug repellant) trim it to fit inside the top of the cover, just tuck it in and it will stay. Worked for me and no ants for years now. Hope this helps

It's rarely the switch but check it out.

You could have a motor problem causing the thermal overload to open shutting off the pump.

I would guess that there's a Pump Saver, Pump Tech, or Insider installed - these units detect line amperage irregularities and shut the pump down to protect it - then once the timer elapses, the pump turns back on.

If that's what's installed, there's a reason - sometimes the things go haywire, but usually it's because the well is running low on water and the protector is doing the job and shutting the pump down temporarily.

Alternatively, if there is nothing like that installed, then the above gentleman is probably correct. If the overload in the motor is kicking, that's saying that motor is cycling or seeing a heavy load for some reason. Get a well driller/pump installer out there to fix it. Another possibility is that you have an almost waterlogged pressure tank or a bladder tank with a leak in the bladder and is almost water logged.

How would that make the pump shut off?

The tank or bladder can not cause this problem.
