I have a Clack water softner with the 1.25 valve. A couple weeks ago a guy who works for me found a rock in the valve after getting an error code on the display. Since that time my water has tested hard. After a regeneration cycle it will test a bit softer for a couple days then back to hard. Watched it go thru an entire regeneration cycle and it seems to be doing okay. Backwashes, brine pulls down on regenerate, backwashes and rinces. So it appears. I'm not real knowledgeable about water softners so any advise is appreciated.

Depending on where the rock came from there is most likely one or more o rings that have been torn in away that is letting the untreated cross into the treated side.
A replacement piston and seal pack assembly would be a starting point to make sure that part of the valve is as good as it is going to be.
