Cullingan N8 with electromechanical timer.
It looks very much like this diagram:

About 10 days ago the system stopped delivering soft water, and it appears to me that the wheel F is not pushing the lever arm down far enough in order to initiate a regeneration cycle. All six of the tabs on the wheel F are pushed in, and when I hand-advance this wheel the tab will push the lever arm E but not far enough to advance the regeneration wheel.

Wheel F does not appear to be damaged, and the lever arm he does not appear to be damaged, but something is not right.

Is the timer keeping time?
that would be the first question.

I did find years ago that the gray or black lever that can be used to start the cycle had broken, replaced that for a customer by pulling it off a old timer assembly that I had.

The timer motor and clock assembly are keeping time. Every 24 hours the timer engages wheel F and wheel F turns 1/6 turn.

Part number E is whole? not broken?

Part E looks just like the diagram, and I did not find any broken pieces.
In addition, I can push down part E and manually start the regeneration process.

But when part E is engaged by wheel F it does not go far enough to start the regeneration.

I'm at a loss so I appreciate you thinking about this.

Let me look at an assembly that I have that is missing the motor and see if I can see what would be the reason for the season.

On the third page, part E has a part too it that could break off, is all of E still there? it is what would push the wheel that M is on clock wise till the gears come together and the motor drives it around.
I did find a spring on the back side of the assembly.., but if the spring is not there then the one wheel(page 1 service -soft water) that wheel is on the spring no spring it is out of place and stays out of place . The spring brings it back and holds it on the motor and the salt wheel...

I attached two photos of the unit, with and without wheel F.

I sure don't see that the lever arm is broken or missing a piece... what do you think?

On the back the side of the assembly there is the spring that I circled in red.
Now it is possible that the spring has broke and is not pulling the black gear that is to the upper right corner of the meter wheel.. then another idea would be the meter wheel assembly there is a broken hook or arm on the back side that the lever pushes.
