People,

My water softener usually had in the past about 18"-20" of water in the tank ("dirty" water line is apparent) . Now it only has about 10", way below the salt level. Is something wrong with this?

Thanks!

I have my eye on this thread. I used to live in an area where I needed a water softener, and remember many times wondering the same thing. Except I was more concerned when the water lever got higher than where I normally saw it.

The pros will probably know better but ours has a float in the tube of the brine tank. I have noticed the water level does change have have not been concerned about it. I have seen where, if the tube doesn't have a cap on it, salt can get into the tube when you are pouring it in and interfere with the float.
