My water heater has a few settings(4,3,2) between not and very hot. My water is only getting warm when set to hot. Should I have to set it between hot and very hot to get hot water? Thanks

How old is wh and has it ever been flush and maintained yearly.

You can try turning it up a little more see if it helps then turn it back down.

If you have to use the very hot setting to get hot water somethings wrong with gas control module. Ive seen the temp probe on them with lots of sediment build up which can affect the way they work.

Flushed??? Not sure if it was before we bought house 8 years ago and we never did it. Water heater is 19 years old.

could be bad control, could have crud built up on thermostat inside tank, could have broken drop tube... however at 19yrs old ...think replacement..

Agree with ben. I wouldn't stick too much money into fixing it up. Sometimes flushing this late in the game can make matters even worst. Chances are after 19 years, you're never going to get all the sediment build-up out anyway.

At least you have somewhat hot water for now. Start budgeting for a new one. :thumbsup:

Not sure how it works there but to pass inspection the temp. at the tap can not be more then 120 deg.
Have to agree your at least 4 years beyond expected life on most water heaters.
Would have been longer if you would have drain some of the solids out of the tank twice and year.
