The water in my shower has been way too hot and my apartment manager has been unresponsive. The water heater is installed in my apartment. I don't share this with other units. Is there a way I can lower the temperature on my water heater on my own?

Should be a thermostat dial on it. You can just turn it down a little at a time till it's the temp you want. Bear in mind it will take a long time for it to cool off after each adjustment.

Sorry to hear that about your manager. You can try to change the temperature on you water heater by adjusting the thermostat which is usually located on the side. The temperature should not be over 120 deg.
Sometimes that knob is under a metal cover at the bottom of the unit.
Just takes a Phillips screw driver to remove it.
Most heaters have a mark where the suggest position would be.

Also on the shower, there should be an anti-scald piece in there, to allow you to lower the hot side, by not allowing a person to adjust the dial to too hot of a setting.

Not always. Majority of the apartment water heaters are stubbies. Only one thermostat in them.

Ayuh,.... Easiest way to fix that is to close the Hot faucet alttle, 'n open the cold faucet more,....
