Have a Richmond hot water heater. MODEL # 5VP40E-1 A.
When the initial start up starts, the blower goes on, then there is a click to start the flame. You can hear the flame. Then the flame goes out after about 2 min and it repeats to start up with a clicking noise. Does this a number of times. Unfortunately it doesn't happen all the time. Could stay lit for the entire cycle without a problem. Pulled the burner assembly apart and cleaned the ignition rod and the orifice. Still seems to do it on occasion. Possible pressure switch? Thanks for the help

It's possible.

I think you had a problem awhile back with it, then it worked fine again, and now the problem is back again.

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer and doing the recommended troubleshooting in your owners manual. As you already have done, cleaning the ignition/orifice was one of them. There were a couple more things to check. Please view above link.

How old is wh/power vent?

The problem is so intermittent. Never contacted the manufacture. Just don't think I'll get anywhere. Yes I did check the other things as well. Power vent is 14yrs.

Anyway to check the pressure switch?

I don't have the specs nor am I familiar with that model at all so I really wouldn't know. I would recommend you call the manufacture and ask them directly.

Usually the pressure switch can be removed, shake it, and checked for water. If water is present or it doesn't rattle, replace it. But again, this is just a guess.

Others may be able to help. Please wait for the plumbers to respond they may know.

Best I could find is a video from repairclinic.com. It's for an AO smith not a Richmond. But maybe it's similar to yours.

If you can, Please post a few pictures of your wh. Maybe someone will recognize it. Thanks.

Another thing to consider, at 14 years old, it may be time for a new one.
