I'll see if I can locate one. But, on automotive (my main background outside electronics), they use a clip- type zip tie. The bottom of the thing you posted is a clip. It fits through a hole and holds the piece in place. Then it has a zip tie molded as part of the assembly. It is used to secure cables, wires on the body of whatever. The clip is pushed through the hole, the zip tie part is wrapped around the wiring and it secures it in place.

I hope that helps. I have been searching for a link to show you, but so far no luck...

MY thought (read "worry") is that it's some part from the washer that somehow fell into the tub?

But....maybe it was something the kid found and had in his pocket?

I'm thinking more and more it was in someone's pocket and just got washed. I looked the machine over and cannot find any place it may have been attached to or fallen from.

I have a jar of these small, specific, thingies. My last one found was a small grey bushing. Every now and then I remember/find what it's for.

Next time I think I'll put my glasses on before I look at something. *sheesh*

It's the push rod for the lid, with rubber bumper.
The square hole it clips into rusted out around the edges.

A bit of JBQuik and it's back in place.
I'll fill in the area around it with PL construction adhesive in a few after the JBQ sets up. That'll give it more support and help keep it from rusting out again.

Thanks for the help guys!
