The drain pipe must be at least 2 inches in diameter and the open end must be at least 18 inches above the trap. If not then it likely that a modern washing machine will cause it to overflow.
Washer drain pipe
I need to know how to replace the drain pipe that is in the wall for my washer. The house was built in 1969 and the drain is too small to handle the large capacity washer. Could you please help?
