Hi, my samsung washer and gas dryer has a dedicated 20 amp circuit. I hooked a multimeter at the live line, start the washer, but when I start the gas dryer, the reading jumps high like 17 - 23 amps. .it rarely jumps above 20 but when it does, obviously it trips the breaker. Do you guys know any solution? thanks

You didn't say which models of washer and dryer you have, but a quick look at one typical Samsung w/d pair, shows that each is rated at 15 Amps. 15A seems high for a gas dryer, but if that number is correct, your 17-23A number wouldn't be unreasonable if both are running at the same time. And it would explain why your breaker is tripping.

Thanks for the responses.
I have the 4.2 cu front load washer, and gas dryer. To add details, that 17-20A surge happens when I start the dryer when the washer is already running. This happens fast, like a second after turning on the dryer. After that it goes down to 8A for the rest of the running time.

Is it a standard breaker, or is it an AFCI breaker?
