I bought new front load washer and dryer and wanted them on pedestals. But I also wanted to be able to roll out the washer/dryer rather than drag it across my new laundry-room floor. Since I could not buy exactly what I wanted, I decided to make it.

It could not just sit on casters. To get good stiffness, the pedestal structure has to sit directly on the floor. But if I need to service the washer/dryer, I can crank a wrench a few turns on a hex feature on the front of the pedestal, and 4" casters will pivot down, lifting the washer or dryer. Then the washer or dryer will pull straight out. I got a Magvent for the dryer duct connection.

I toyed with the idea of modifying the standard pedestals. Color would have matched better, although I found Formica high pressure laminate that is pretty darned close. But I am not sure modifying the factory pedestal would have even been possible, and my own pedestal is way stiffer anyways.

The cover piece is located with a couple of pins and kept in place with half a dozen neodymium magnets. I will have to make 4 pockets to bond to the top, to positively locate the feet of the washer and dryer.

Correct --- the threaded rod will move up and down a little as the caster bellcrank pivots.

So the nut on the bellcrank pivots, and the angle iron at the front is slotted vertically, to allow the threaded rod to move up and down. So no binding.
