Hello,

First time to post..long time vistor.

I building a 18 x 16 deck addition to the back of my house. I wanting to add a screen in porch over the addition. My neigherboor has a gable roof with stick built rafters.

I'm curious how to frame the porch so no cross times would be necessary in the gable roof.

Any thoughts? My plan is to use 4x4 post on 54 inch centers for the walls (same as neighboors). 2 2x6's for the header.

If, " cross times", are rafter ties, the only way not to have these framing members would be to have a truss framed roof system. But there will still be structure to brace the framing.
